Australia’s young quick bowler Jhye Richardson earned a life-changing deal in IPL 2021 auction when Punjab Kings secured him for INR 14 crores. Jhye Richardson was one of the millionaires in this year’s auction alongside Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson. While the move immensely surprised the fans, Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon revealed that he was always on their list.

Jhye Richardson might be an injury-prone cricketer; however, he has impressed in his brief international career. He has played two Tests and taken six wickets at 20.50. The 24-year old was also part of Australia’s thumping ODI series victory in India in early 2019, playing a crucial role in their win. He replaced Nathan Coulter-Nile from the third ODI and bowled expertly with the new ball alongside Pat Cummins.

Nevertheless, the Western Australian was on the radar of most franchises in the IPL 2021 auction due to his heroics for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League’s recent edition. He took 29 scalps in 17 matches at 16.31 while maintaining a decent economy rate of 7.69. Moreover, the right-arm speedster has a batting strike rate of 155 in the shortest format, proving he is a complete package.

Satish Menon remarked that Jhye Richardson was always on their radar since he is one of the finest components in white-ball cricket. Menon rued at Chris Morris going to the Rajasthan Royals despite bidding vociferously for him. Nevertheless, he praises the Australian for giving them the flexibility of bowling well at any stage along with being a handy batsman. Hence, they are excited to see him in the Punjab Kings’ jersey.

“Jhye was always on our list. He is one of the finest components with the ball in white-ball cricket. We stretched ourselves for Chris Morris but Rajasthan Royals got hold of him. Jhye’s ability to bowl at any stage of the match gives us the flexibility we were looking for. And obviously, he is a very handy player with the bat as well. We are really excited to witness Jhye in Punjab Kings jersey in IPL.” Menon told WION.
