Kolkata Knight Riders will be playing their 12th game of IPL 2021 against Punjab Kings on Friday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After enduring a torrid run in the India leg of the tournament, KKR have bounced back with three wins in their last four matches in the second leg of IPL 2021.

Thanks to those wins, Kolkata Knight Riders currently find themselves at number four position on the points table. Having said that, they need to win at least two out of their three remaining matches to give themselves any chance of making the playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders would be riding high on confidence after beating Delhi Capitals in their last game by three wickets. On a slow track at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, KKR restricted Delhi to just 127 runs in the first innings. Iyer, Chakravarthy and Ferguson all finished their spells with two wickets each. Lockie Ferguson and Andre Russell both would be unavailable for them in the next match and this is a big blow for them.

Much like Delhi Capitals, KKR batsmen too struggled in the second innings. Runs were hard to come by but a couple of vital knocks from Shubman Gill (30 off 33) and Nitish Rana (36 off 27) guided the team home in 18.2 overs.

On the other hand, Punjab Kings are sitting at sixth on the points table, having managed to register 4 wins in 11 matches. Lack of performances in the middle order didn’t help them win a lot of matches this season, however, all is not lost yet. Three wins in the next three games could provide them a chance of reaching the playoffs.

Punjab played their last game against Mumbai Indians. Punjab didn’t get to a great start and the middle order too failed to make a substantial contribution. However, a crucial partnership between Aiden Markram and Deepak Hooda helped the team reach 135 runs in the first innings. Markram top-scored for Punjab, scoring 42 runs off 29 balls, while Hooda scored 28 off 26.

Contrary to their batting, Punjab, made a good start with the ball in the second innings. The bowlers bowled at good areas and denied MI to score runs at a great pace. By the end of the halfway mark, they had removed MI’s top three batsmen.

However, the latter half of the innings saw MI coming back strongly. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard’s partnership eventually took the game away from Punjab as MI chased down the score in 19 overs.
