IPL 2021: The Defeat Shows We Haven't Learned From Our Mistakes - KL Rahul Dejected With PBKS Batsmen

Updated - 22 Sep 2021, 01:04 PM

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul was a disappointed man after his side completely goofed up an easy chase. Youngster, Kartik Tyagi, managed to defend just four runs from the final over against well-set PBKS batsmen, which is likely to deflate the Punjab franchise.

Rahul was devastated at the post-match presentation ceremony. He felt the side failed to handle the pressure they were under in a rather straightforward chase. Needing just 10 runs from 15 balls and 8 runs from 12 later on, PBKS succumbed to a sorry defeat.

Obviously, it’s a tough one to swallow. We have been a team that has experienced such games before. It is about learning from them and handling pressure better. It has happened to the best in the game and sometimes under pressure, it is tough to say what the batters were thinking.

Sometimes, you look at finishing it early, miss a few shots, and then let the opponents come into the game. You can learn from your mistakes and see how you can handle pressure better. We have been here a few times so it is tough. It shows we haven’t learned from our mistakes,” Rahul stated.

“There were positive with the bat, ball and in the field” – KL Rahul

Despite the last-over defeat, KL Rahul kept his chin up and asserted that there were plenty of silver linings in the defeat. Arshdeep Singh claimed a five-wicket haul with the bat while both Nicholas Pooran and Mayank Agarwal found some form with the bat.

Arshdeep and Shami bowled really well. We bowled well in the first six overs and a few edges allowed them to get away. We kept getting wickets and there were a lot of positives with the bat, ball, and in the field. Mayank looked solid in his first game in the IPL [in UAE] and hopefully, it helps us in the games moving forward,” Rahul concluded.

The two-run victory took Rajasthan Royals up to fifth place while PBKS fell further down and occupy the seventh spot.
