Delhi Capitals (DC) coach Ricky Ponting asserted that the side is here to win and is fully capable of winning their first IPL title. Rishabh Pant and co. have their work cut out when they meet Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday to fight for a spot in the final.

DC has had one of their best seasons in history so far, winning ten games out of fourteen. They have been one of the most consistent sides of the season. Unfortunately, they crumbled under pressure against CSK in Qualifier 1, but have another shot at making the finals.

I’ve been in Delhi for three years. The first year I was here, we finished last. Two years ago, we finished third and last year we finished second. I think we can win the IPL, as simple as that. You know, I might go well on record saying that because that’s what I am here for. That’s what the players are here for.

This is a different Delhi than it was two years ago. And the reason that it is, is because of what all you guys have brought to this franchise. We adhere to those four words we have said – Attitude, Effort, Commitment, and Care, will be better,” Ponting said ahead of their match.

The Delhi franchise turned its fortunes around a couple of seasons in the auction courtesy of some excellent buys. Since then, as Ponting mentioned, they have finished in the top-3 but have failed to lay their hands on the trophy. Ponting doesn’t want his side to be satisfied with this ‘good’ season but instead wants to go one level higher and make it a great season.

I’m here to win the title, we have been close, there have been good seasons but we haven’t had a great season because we haven’t won it yet. We are all about winning. Bring me some attitude, bring me some effort and commitment. And if you do that, then the sky is the limit for this team,” Ponting mentioned.

DC has their task cut out against an upbeat KKR when they meet in Sharjah in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday. The Eoin Morgan-led side has all the momentum heading into the clash and DC will have to bring their A-game to defeat them.
