Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been having an eventful day on the field in the ongoing IPL 2021 season opener against the Mumbai Indians in Chennai. Virat Kohli won the toss to begin with – a rare event and elected to field first to deliver the desired results by playing a significant role in Rohit Sharma’s run-out. And the 32-year old also dropped a simple catch off Krunal Pandya’s bat.

The incident occurred in the 19th over delivered by Kyle Jamieson when left-handed batsman Krunal Pandya crunched a powerful drive to mid-off. Kohli, who was fielding at the region, could not hold on to a straightforward chance as it came on to his face. The ball burst through the skipper’s hands and hit him just above his eye. It added to Kohli’s fielding woes that has surprisingly become rampant these days.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was not the only one who missed a catch, as Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj also put down chances. Despite that, Royal Challengers Bangalore were able to restrict the defending champions to 159 in 20 overs, following Harshal Patel’s five-wicket haul. Opening batsman Chris Lynn top-scored with 49, followed by Suryakumar Yadav’s 31.

But the likes of Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan, and Krunal Pandya found it challenging to get going. The Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers should indeed fancy their chances in the opening game of IPL 2021 and grab a couple of points.
