Over the years, the IPL orange cap list saw the inclusion of many names, some classic veterans, and some newcomers all set to showcase their skills on a big platform like IPL. The first name that went in the orange cap in Indian Premier League list is Shaun Marsh from KXIP, who scored 616 runs at a strike rate of 139.68; following which Matthew Hayden got his name registered in the list of orange cap in IPL all season scoring 572 runs for CSK at a commendable strike rate of 144.81. 

Sachin Tendulkar, in the very next season, smashed 618 runs for MI in the season and won the orange cap. Chris Gayle is the only batsman till date who won the IPL orange cap for two consecutive seasons scoring 608 and 733 runs in the 4th and 5th seasons of the league.

Michael Hussey equalled the record of 733 runs in the very next season and won the cap batting at a strike rate of 129.5 for CSK after whom Robin Uthappa (660 runs) won the orange cap in 2014 for KKR.

David Warner has won the highest number of IPL orange cap (2015, 2017, 2019) for SRH scoring an aggregate of 562, 641, and 692 runs all at a strike rate of above 140.

Although RCB lost to SRH in the finals of IPL 2016, Virat Kohli broke all previous IPL orange cap records by scoring a massive 973 runs at an excellent strike rate of 152.03, which is the highest till date.

Kane Williamson (735 runs) won the cap in IPL 2018 for SRH.

In IPL 2020, KL Rahul (670 runs), won the orange cap playing for KXIP currently known as the Punjab Kings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad won the orange cap in Indian Premier League season 14 scoring 635 runs batting for Chennai Super Kings at a strike rate of 157.80, also becoming only the third batsman from the team to cross the 600 mark.

Continuing his red-hot form, Jos Buttler went all guns blazing in the 15th season aggregating 863 runs scored at the strike rate of 149.06.

Shubman Gill surpassed Ruturaj Gaikwad to become the youngest orange cap holder IPL in the 16th season smashing 890 runs at a strike rate of 157.80.
