Former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews has penned down a heartfelt message for MS Dhoni, hoping that the ongoing IPL season would not be his last.

While MS Dhoni is yet to confirm anything about his future as a player, speculations are rife that he might decide to call it a day after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2023. The former India skipper announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 but has continued to ply his trade in the IPL.

And while it would not be wrong to say that age is not on his side, fans around the world want to see him in action as much as possible. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman has received unparalleled adulation from the fans in the ongoing season of the IPL. Even at away venues, fans have made sure to give him a memorable reception by wearing CSK jerseys and chanting his name.

Angelo Mathews on MS Dhoni’s future:

It looks like not only the fans but cricketers also want MS Dhoni to continue playing in the IPL for at least one more season. And one of those cricketers is former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews. As MS Dhoni was leading Chennai Super Kings in another final on Monday (May 29), the veteran allrounder took to Twitter to post a special message for him.

Mathews pointed out how much love and support Dhoni has and hailed him as a phenomenal person. Mathews further hoped that Dhoni would play the next IPL too as he tweeted: “The support @msdhoni has and the amount of hearts he has won is insane! Shows the true character of the phenomenal person he is ! Hope he plays the next season too!”

Talking about MS Dhoni’s performance in IPL 2023, he has looked really sharp behind the stumps as well as in front of it. While he has batted for a very limited time this IPL, it has not stopped him from making a mark. His powerful cameos have shown that he has still a lot to offer.

He has faced 56 balls in the tournament so far and has smashed 104 runs off them with the help of 3 fours and 10 sixes. He has also taken 7 catches and affected 3 stumpings including one in the final to dismiss the dangerous Shubman Gill.
