CSK vs SRH Match Report: Chennai Super Kings, on Friday (April 21), thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets to register their fourth win of the season. Set a target of 135, the 4-time IPL champions chased down the total in less than 19 overs.

Chasing a modest 135, Chennai Super Kings were off to a solid start. Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad quickly ended SRH’s slim hopes of making a comeback in the game. They made a cautious start and added 35 runs in the first 5 overs before Conway went berserk against Marco Jansen.

In the sixth over, the New Zealander smashed the South African for 4 fours and a six to help CSK end the powerplay on 60 for no loss. The duo added 87 runs for the first wicket. Their partnership came to an end in the 11th over when Gaikwad was run-out for 35.

CSK lost two more wickets but Conway remained till the end, scoring an unbeaten fifty to make sure his team cross the finishing line with ease.

Earlier in the game, Sunrisers Hyderabad huffed and puffed to 134 for 7 after Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first. On a pitch where shot-making looked a bit tough, SRH’s innings never really got the momentum it needed to post a big total.

The SRH team management promoted Abhishek Sharma as an opener to give them a fast start and he responded with a knock of 34 runs from 26 balls. He and Harry Brook added 35 runs for the first wicket before Akash Singh sent back the latter for 18.
Sharma and Rahul Tripathi then laid the foundation for a good total by adding 36 runs for the second ticket. SRH were comfortably placed on 71 for 1 in the 10th over before Sharma’s dismissal triggered a collapse. Ravindra Jadeja was the architect of that collapse.

The left-arm spinner first dismissed Sharma before accounting for Rahul Tripathi and Mayank Agarwal to leave SRH reeling at 95 for 5. Between Tripathi and Agarwal’s dismissal, Maheesh Theekshana dismissed Aiden Markram for just 12.
Heinrich Klaasen and Marcon Jansen stopped the rot for a while but before they could play some big shots, the former returned to the pavilion after scoring 17. SRH eventually finished on 134 for 7.
