IPL 2023: 3 Teams Who Can Target Sam Curran In The Mini Auction. Sam Curran had a record-breaking run in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022. He became the youngest-ever player to become the Player of the Tournament. The left-arm pacer picked up 13 wickets in 6 matches at a stupendous strike rate of 10.4 and a wonderful economy rate of 6.52.
While a few franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore don’t have enough funds, teams like Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans need a batting all-rounder rather than a bowling all-rounder.

Although Sam Curran didn’t feature in the 2022 edition of IPL because of an injury, he has been a franchise favorite right from the beginning. At the 2019 IPL auctions, he was bought by Punjab Kings for INR 7.25 crore, which was also the third-highest bid at the auctions.
Ahead of the 2020 season, he was released by Punjab and bought by Chennai Super Kings at INR 5.5 crore. Sam Curran’s base price is INR 2 crore. He has played 32 IPL matches with 32 wickets and 995 runs at an average of 31.09.

IPL 2023: 3 Teams Who Can Target Sam Curran In The Mini Auction
1. Chennai Super Kings
In a shocking move, Chennai Super Kings released the old warhorse Dwayne Bravo ahead of the IPL 2023. While their playing XI looks settled, an overseas slot for a bowling all-rounder is vacant. Sam Curran fits the bill perfectly to fill that slot.
Sam Curran has played for Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni before in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 where he picked 22 scalps and scored 242 runs in 22 games. The four-time champions would like to sign players who have played for them in the past. Hence, CSK will be tempted by the prospect of bringing the Englishman back to the team in IPL 2023.
Furthermore, with a purse of INR 20.45 crore, Chennai Super Kings can afford a marquee signing in Sam Curran and they can look for backup options from the Indian domestic circuit.
2. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
With the presence of Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone, Punjab Kings have a mighty batting unit. They need someone in the bowling department to support Kagiso Rabada with the ball. It would be much better if the player could contribute with the bat.
Punjab Kings released West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith ahead of next season and they also have an overseas slot for the bowling all-rounder vacant. Sam Curran will undoubtedly be an upgrade on the West Indies all-rounder.
Moreover, Sam Curran has already played for Punjab Kings in the past as the Englishman kickstarted his IPL career with the Mohali-based franchise only. In IPL 2019, he scored 95 runs in 9 IPL 2019 games besides picking 10 scalps. With INR 32.20 crore left in the purse, the Punjab Kings have the financial might to beat the competition to bring back their former player.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Sunrisers Hyderabad have a strong pace unit, including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, and Marco Jansen. However, they don’t have proper death bowlers barring T Natarajan. Hence, signing Sam Curran might solve their death bowling woes.
Furthermore, the English all-rounder can also double up as the finisher for the Hyderabad-based franchise. Sunrisers Hyderabad have released some big names ahead of next season and the signing Sam Curran will pass a statement of intent from their side.
The Orange Army has the biggest purse among all franchises and hence, they are in the strongest position to sign any player they want despite the price tag. Hence, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Sam Curran donning the SRH jersey in the IPL 2023.
