Mumbai Indians (MI) had an IPL 2022 season to forget and with only 4 wins from 14 matches, the Rohit Sharma-led side finished at the last spot in the points table. Since there was a mega auction this year, the franchise couldn’t retain the services of the majority of its players and brought in fresh faces.

The likes of Tymal Mills, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, and Fabian Allen may be released by the franchise along with misfiring Kieron Pollard and IPL 2022’s biggest buy Ishan Kishan, though the last two may also be retained for IPL 2023.

Lucknow Super Giants were one of the two new franchises that made their debut in IPL 2022. The Lucknow-based franchise became the first one to represent Uttar Pradesh in the Indian Premier League. KL Rahul was named the captain of the team. The team management formed a stellar squad at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

As expected, LSG made it to the playoffs in their debut season, but they could not win the title. Lucknow finished third on the points table, meaning they had to play in the Eliminator match. Royal Challengers Bangalore knocked them out of the competition by defeating them in the Eliminator match. Lucknow Super Giants may release Indian batter Manish Pandey, Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye, and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis because of his hefty price tag.

Ishan Kishan

The Mumbai Indians didn’t want to let Ishan Kishan go and pulled out all stops as they spent a whopping 15.25 crore to have him back. It was the most expensive buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction. Ishan Kishan became the second-most expensive Indian buy in IPL auctions. He had a good IPL in 2022, amassing 418 runs averaging 32.15 including 3 fifties.

If Mumbai Indians release him because of his hefty price tag, he may be targeted by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to add the keeper as a backup option for KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock in IPL 2023.

Tymal Mills

Much was expected from England pacer Tymal Mills but he disappointed in his comeback IPL season. Bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.50 crore, Tymal Mills scalped 6 wickets in 5 matches but bowled with an economy rate of 11.18. The economy rate above 10 is really not acceptable even if a bowler is a death-over specialist.

Tymal Mills, England’s left-arm pacer couldn’t control the flow of runs and his struggles saw him play just 5 matches. He could be one of the players that MI might release going into the IPL 2023 mini-auction. After having made his IPL debut with RCB in 2017, Tymal Mills returned after a gap of 5 years. A death-over specialist, he was snapped up by MI for 1.5 crores. Lucknow Super Giants might target him if he’s released by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023.

Jaydev Unadkat

In the IPL 2022 auction, Jaydev Unadkat was purchased by the Mumbai Indians in February 2022. Jaydev Unadkat, a seasoned Indian fast bowler, managed to play five games for the team, obtaining six wickets at an economy rate of 9.50. His high economic rate may guide his release. If he’s released by Mumbai, Lucknow Super Giants may try to obtain the pacer’s services in IPL 2023.

Having played 91 IPL games, Jaydev Unadkat has enough experience and has been in enough pressure situations and he may be snapped up by Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023 if Mumbai Indians release him. He has picked up 91 scalps in as many matches averaging 30.53. His best performance came in IPL 2017 when he claimed 24 wickets from 12 matches for the Rising Pune Supergiant averaging 13.41.
