The champions of the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Titans were a dominant juggernaut in IPL 2022. Playing their debut season with a new team and a brand new captain, Gujarat Titans stunned everyone with their exemplary performances in IPL 2022.
Prior to the December 23 mini-auction, GT released a number of notable figures, including Lockie Ferguson, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Jason Roy, Varun Aaron, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, and Dominic Drakes.
Learn about the 3 Gujarat Titans (GT) players that were released and could bring in bids of more than 8 Cr at the IPL 2023 auction.
IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Players Released By Gujarat Titans (GT) Who Can Be Bought For More Than 8 Crores
Dominic Drakes
Previously a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise, Drakes was bought by Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022. He failed to get any game under his belt and was warming the benches in the entirety of IPL 2022.
The left-arm pacer could not compete with the huge competition in the bowling ranks of Gujarat with the presence of Mohammad Shami, Yash Dayal, and Lockie Ferguson. Drakes has played 10 T20Is for West Indies and has managed to pick up 6 wickets. He has a bowling average of 48.3 in T20Is.
Many teams will be looking to add the Caribbean all-rounder to their roster ahead of IPL 2023 Auction.
Varun Aaron
At the 2022 mega auction, Gujarat Titans acquired the ace pacer to add to their collection of seam bowlers. Aaron had a wonderful chance to prove himself, but he had trouble showing off the ball. In IPL 2022, he took two wickets in as many games, but conceded runs at an economy of 10.40 and was dropped from the GT side.
Over ten years have passed since Varun Aaron first appeared in the IPL. In the 2014 season, when he took 16 wickets in 10 games for Royal Challengers Bangalore at an economy of 8.15, he became well-known. With the exception of the seventh iteration of the lucrative T20 tournament, the 33-year-old did not exactly light the world on fire with his bowling performances.
However, the pace element that Varun Aaron provides may tickle the IPL franchises to bid for the express pacer.
Jason Roy
Defending champions Gujarat Titans released England’s opening batter Jason Roy ahead of IPL 2023 Auction. To note, Roy was bagged by GT at a cost of INR 2 crore, but he did not participate in the last concluded edition due to personal reasons.
Recently, Roy has been struggling to score runs as well. He has managed to score just six runs in two games against Australia. The 32-year-old was also dropped from England’s T20I squad due to his poor run in the shortest format of the game.
However, he can be a suitable candidate for many teams in the IPL 2023 as the Englishman provides blazing starts at the top of the order.
