The IPL 2023 auction will be held in Kochi on December 23. All the franchises need to have at least 18 or a maximum of 25 players in their squads. In this article, we take a look at three retained players by SRH who would have gone unsold had they been released.
IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Players Retained By Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Who Would Have Gone Unsold In The Auction
Abdul Samad
After being a regular member of SRH in IPL 2020 and 2021, Samad played just two games for SRH in IPL 2022. He scored just four against The Royals while against Lucknow he was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
The Jammu & Kashmir cricketer entered the IPL with the reputation of being a power-hitter. However, in the matches that he has played so far, there were not too many examples of the same. Had he been released, not too many franchises would have bought him given that he is still an unknown commodity in IPL cricket.
T Natarajan
Natarajan was one of their strike bowlers in IPL 2020 picking up 16 wickets. He delivered once again for the franchise in IPL 2022 picking up 18 wickets. However, in between the IPL seasons he played very less international cricket. A knee injury prevented him from playing in the IPL 2021 for the franchise.
After a remarkable debut across formats for India in the 2020-21 season, the left-armer is now a forgotten face in Indian cricket. Lack of cricket over the last two years coupled with doubtful fitness might have found him not in favor of the franchises.
Kartik Tyagi
Tyagi was one of the promising youngsters from India’s 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning squad. However, despite his limited U-19 experience, SRH paid as many as 4 crores to bag him in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
He bowled just 8 overs for SRH across the entire season and picked up just one wicket. He was unfortunate to sit out with the attack being led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar alongside Nataraja and Marco Jansen playing.
