The IPL and South Africa have a very long history together. It also served as the venue for the IPL in 2009, and several South African athletes routinely participated in the tournament. AB De Villiers, David Miller, Imran Tahir, Dale Steyn, and Kagiso Rabada, among others, left an enduring mark on the competition.

The 2023 IPL auction will take place in Kochi on December 23. Unlike the previous season’s mega-auction in February, the BCCI will conduct a mini-auction for the forthcoming season.

Ahead of the auction, all ten franchises released a list of players they retained and released from the squad.

A total of 85 players were released ahead of the auctions, and some of the big names include Mayank Agarwal, Kane Williamson, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, and Pat Cummins. While the players mentioned above are likely to receive heavy cash in the auction, several players fear going unsold.

Let’s have a look at the 3 South African players who might go unsold in the IPL 2023 auction.

Corbin Bosch

For the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the Rajasthan Royals named South African cricketer Corbin Bosch as Nathan Coulter-Nile’s replacement but he failed to get his name on the starting 11.

Bosch made a contribution to South Africa’s U19 World Cup-winning team, and he was honored as Player of the Match in the title match.

The South African pacer has featured in 43 T20 matches so far, taking just 18 wickets, and his batting record is also not particularly impressive, making him an unlikely buy in the IPL 2023 auction.

Rassie van der Dussen was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1 crore at the IPL 2022 auction to fill in the gap left by David Miller in the middle order.

However, for the bulk of the season, the 33-year-old South African was not permitted to play. Rassie van der Dussen, who played for the Royals in three IPL 2022 matches, was only able to score 22 runs.

The former Rajasthan Royals player can go unnoticed by the clubs if he is released before the IPL 2023 because he hasn’t participated in international cricket in a while.

Keshav Maharaj

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj might not be too far away from being signed by a franchise if looked at his performances against India in South Africa and India, as well the fact that there are now 10 teams competing in the IPL, which means there is an opportunity for additional players.

However, with him being a foreign player and not providing anything else other than bowling, IPL franchises may keep themselves away from the left-arm orthodox bowler.

The South African spinner has so far played in 25 T20Is and picked up just 22 wickets at 7.21 runs per over.
