After a disappointing debut season as a captain, Sanju Samson led the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition, their first final since winning the inaugural edition in 2008. RR CEO Jake Lush McCrum was all praise for Sanju and said he is younger than other players but has a huge amount of IPL experience with the Rajasthan Royals.

Sanju Samson was appointed as the franchise captain in 2021 after Steve Smith’s leadership failed to deliver the desired results. The 26-year-old has had a long association with the Royals, joining the team as a rookie in 2013 and becoming a senior member of the team. The Royals bought Samson back when they rejoined the league in 2018 following a two-year suspension.

“Sanju was always our guy. I would say he is a big name. Sanju, yes he might have been younger than some individuals but as I said, huge amount of IPL experience, huge amount of experience with Rajasthan Royals. He lived, breathed the brand and everything about the franchise. He is so passionate about it which is so important,” he said.

He Will Keep Getting Better And Better – Jake Lush Mccrum

McCrum stated Samson and the director of cricket and coach Kumar Sangakkara have a good relationship. He said that even though Samson may not be loud on the field, his work off the field, including talking to players one-on-one and motivating them, has been a key aspect of his leadership.

“What I love about Sanju is his openness to learn and the amount he has developed over the last couple of years has been amazing. He will keep getting better and better. He has taken us to a final in his second year as captain which is monumental and the way he manages players, the way he works and motivates them behind the scenes.”

“He may not be the loudest individual on the field but all the work he does off it, which isn’t seen by many, is one of the big reasons why we have been so successful. He has worked very well with Sanga (Kumar Sangakkara) in creating that winning culture and look what’s happened in the last season.”
