Indian batter Ishan Kishan scored a record-breaking double-century against Bangladesh in the third ODI of the recently concluded series. The wicket-keeper batter came to the limelight while playing for five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 24-year-old has spoken out about the impact MI has had on his career so far.

Following his heroics as captain in the 2016 U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, Kishan represented the Gujarat Lions in the IPL. MI bought the youngster for 6.2 crores in the 2018 auction. He was MI’s leading run-scorer during their title win in the UAE in 2020, batting in the middle order and as an opener. The southpaw became the most expensive player in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction after being sold for Rs 15.25 crore.

“Mumbai Indians have helped me a lot, like how to deal with pressure situations and also there were so many big players in that team and I got to learn a lot. When I was not doing well also, not necessarily the result on the ground, but Hardik would be there to pull my leg to get me in that zone and start working hard. So, these things also matter to me a lot.”

If India Wins We Are Happy About It – Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is one of the young players in India who has not had many opportunities to play for the national team. He is competing with his former U-19 World Cup teammate Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the position of Team India’s first-choice wicketkeeper.

“We just try to help each other out, like how to be a better player because at the end of the day, all of us know that we are going to represent out country, so if India wins we are happy about it, not thinking if I scored a hundred or Pant or Samson did.”

“If we have any doubt, we do talk to each other about it. We just want to focus on ourselves, how we can get better day by day and how can we help our country to win the game.”

Ishan Kishan is likely to be picked in the Indian squad for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs. Three T20s will be played from January 3 to 7 and ODIs from January 10 to 15.
