Australian Cricket Team’s dashing fast bowler Pat Cummins‘ decision to pull out from the IPL has been quite astounding. The right-arm speedster has been quite pivotal to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) setup and can also provide lusty blows at the back end of the innings.
With the retirement of Aaron Finch from ODIs, Cricket Australia (CA) has named Cummins as the new ODI Skipper. His first assignment as a skipper is against England starting on 18th November (Wednesday). It is assumed that Cummins won’t play each and every match till the World Cup due to workload.
Pat Cummins on skipping IPL
Pat Cummins was having an interaction with reporters and was asked about IPL 2023. “I really do love playing in the IPL, but just looking at the schedule, the decision was pretty easy. You not only want to be physically fresh but, as captain, you want to be mentally fresh as much as you can to make decisions.” said Pat Cummins.
“Straight after the IPL, there are six Test matches, hopefully we make the World Test Championship final. I was totally depleted after the last Ashes (in England) in 2019, so I just want to be going there as fresh as I can be.” he added.
Pat Cummins an Asset
Cricket Australia (CA) would be quite delighted with Cummins’ decision. In all these riveting and non-stop cricket, the players are getting smart here. Pat Cummins’ has shown responsibility and leadership as we all know that for Australia, Test Cricket is the pinnacle
Australia is all set to play Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February which would most likely determine the finalists of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023). Pat Cummins would be well aware of the fact that his team will have to be at its best if they want to play WTC final as, before India series, they are due to face West Indies and South Africa. The recent triumph in Pakistan and Sri Lanka (the series was squared by 1-1) shows that Australia is heading in the right direction as winning in sub-continental conditions is never easy.
