India fast bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur is set to turn up for Kolkata Knight Riders in the next edition of the Indian Premier League 2023 as his former franchise Delhi Capitals traded him for uncapped Mumbai all-rounder Aman Khan.

Among the other released players, two served as backup ‘keepers to Rishabh Pant – Srikar Bharat, and Tim Seifert. Therefore, come the auction, Delhi will be looking for a gloveman. With a remaining purse of INR 19.45 crore that shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Rishabh Pant, David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Ripal Patel, Rovman Powell, Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Dhull, Mitchell Marsh, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Khaleel Ahmed, Lungi Ngidi, Mustafizur Rahman, Aman Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, Praveen Dubey, Vicky Ostwal were retained by the franchise before IPL Auction 2023.

As many as 991 players, including 277 overseas stars, have registered for the IPL 2023 mini-auction, which will be held in Kochi on December 23. Australian players dominate the list of 991 registered players as 57 have signed up for the mini-auction from the country.

Sean Abbott, Riley Meredith, Jhye Richardson, Adam Zampa (INR 1.5 Crores), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Chris Lynn (INR 2 Crores), Moises Henriques, Andrew Tye (INR 1 Crore) are some of the prominent Australian names to have registered themselves for IPL Auction 2023 and have put themselves in the highest base price bracket.

The likes of Wesley Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Cameron Boyce, Hilton Cartwright, Ben Cutting, Ben Dwarshuis, Peter Handscomb, Matthew Kuhnemann, Ben Mcdermott, Joel Paris, Joshua Phillipe, Daniel Sams, Gurinder Sandhu, D Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Ashton Turner, Chris Green, Joshua Brown, and Tanveer Sangha are some of the less prominent names registered for IPL Auction 2023.

A few foreign players decided not to play in the Indian Premier League 2023 to focus on National cricket. Australian Players Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, and Aaron Finch are on this list opting out of IPL Auction 2023.

Australian wicket-keeper Ben McDermott plays for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. He is an incredibly hard hitter, having notched up 2139 runs in the BBL from 74 games (71 innings) at a strike rate of 138.9 averaging 36.88 with 3 tons.

The 27-year-old has played 5 ODIs and 23 T20Is. He has scored 3059 runs in T20 cricket playing 119 games averaging 31.53 at a strike rate of 134.1. Ben McDermott has been a top keeper in BBL over the last two seasons and could be a smart buy for Delhi Capitals after the release of backup keepers Tim Seifert and Srikar Bharat. He may also be a makeshift opener if bought by DC in IPL Auction 2023.

Joshua Phillipe has played only 5 IPL games for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020 and has scored 78 runs averaging 19.5. He can bat atop the order as well as keep wickets and hence is an option for Delhi Capitals to acquire him in IPL Auction 2023. The 25-year-old has age on his side.

The right-arm pacer picked five wickets in the seven games he played for the Mumbai Indians in the 2020 season. MI bought him again in the 2021 auctions for INR 5 cr. The fast bowler has been part of the IPL since 2013; he represented the Mumbai Indians in his first year in the league, was Delhi Daredevils’ joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2015 season, and donned the Kolkata Knight Riders jersey in 2017. At the IPL Player Auction 2018, RCB snapped him for INR 2.20 cr.

He has picked 48 scalps in 39 IPL matches averaging 22.92 at an economy rate of 7.7. Rajasthan Royals’ fast-bowling allrounder Nathan Coulter-Nile returned to Australia for rehabilitation after suffering a side strain during the team’s opening match in IPL 2022, against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He had been bought by the franchise for INR 2 crore in the February mega auction. He may be acquired if fit as he’s been released by Rajasthan before IPL Auction 2023.
