The 34-year-old India National Cricket Team batter Ajinkya Rahane was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 50 lakh at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction. He became CSK’s first purchase at the ongoing auction.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 player auction, which is a mini-auction, is currently being held on Friday, December 23, in Kochi. The window for the franchises to retain and release players ended on November 15 and 163 players were retained by the franchises whereas 85 players were released.

In addition to the money left over from the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction and the value of the players they release, each team are having an additional INR 5 crore to spend at the Indian Premier League 2023 mini-auction.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane set his base price at INR 50 lakh for the Indian Premier League 2023 mini-auction and he was acquired for the same by the 4-time IPL winners. He was one of the most experienced Indian batters to enter the IPL auction this year.

Rahane previously represented Delhi Capitals, now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rahane was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2022 and he had played just 7 games and scored 133 runs at an average of 19 before being ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

Overall, Rahane has played 158 games in the Indian Premier League and has scored 4074 runs at an average of 30.86 and a strike rate of 120.68 with the highest score of 105*. Overall, he has smashed 2 centuries and 28 half-centuries in the tournament.
