IPL Auction 2023: Team Wise One Player Which Will Be Bought By Their Old Franchise In Mini Auction. The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 2023 season will take place on December 23 in Kochi, Kerala, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) announced.

Up to 991 players have signed up for the mini-auction, which will take place before a second consecutive 10-team season, including 714 Indians and 277 foreign players. During the IPL auction 2023, a total of 10 teams will compete against one another to snag some strong players for their roster.

Since the IPL auction 2023 is a mini-auction, many franchises have kept players in their squads. All of the teams currently have between 10 and 16 players on their rosters. Each team will be permitted to select up to 25 players for their roster during the IPL auction 2023.

1. Shivam Mavi- Kolkata Knight Riders

One of the youngsters from the class of 2018 that Kolkata Knight Riders reinvested in for the IPL 2022 was Shivam Mavi. The KKR management went hammer and tongs to sign him at the IPL 2022 mega auction and eventually grabbed him for INR 7.25 crore.

However, the 23-year-old pacer failed to repay the faith of the team and had an awful show with the ball. In the six matches Shivam Mavi played, he could only manage five wickets and leaked runs at an economy of 10.32. Following the string of mediocre performances, KKR decided against retaining the Noida-born for the next IPL 2023 season.

One of the prime reasons for Shivam Mavi’s release could have been his hefty paycheck. If KKR had an opportunity to re-sign the ace pacer at an affordable price in IPL Auction 2023, the think tank might latch onto it. Shivam Mavi has been associated with KKR for the last five seasons and did a great job for the team in seasons 2020 and 2021, picking a combined tally of 20 wickets in 17 matches at an economy of under eight.

2. Nicholas Pooran – SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Nicholas Pooran has been a proven performer in the T20 circuit. Sunrisers Hyderabad roped in the swashbuckling batter at the IPL 2022 mega auction to bolster their batting lineup. He had an outstanding campaign in the IPL 2022 season as he accumulated 306 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 144.34.

However, the West Indies batter was not able to keep up with the good form across T20 competitions. In the Caribbean Premier League 2022, he managed to score just 108 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 117.39. The Trinidad-born was dismal with the bat at the T20 World Cup 2022 as well and scored 25 runs in three games at a strike rate of 86.20.

SRH were not inclined towards repaying the whopping sum of INR 10.75 crore for an out-of-form Nicholas Pooran and thus, did not retain him before the IPL Auction 2023 . But as the West Indies white-ball skipper had fared well for the Hyderabad franchise, the think tank might look to buy him back at a price lower than his previous amount.

3. Mayank Agarwal- Punjab Kings

Mayank Agarwal has been a run-bank in the Indian Premier League. The Indian batter has played 113 games and aggregated 2327 runs at a strike rate of 134.28. Punjab Kings paid an eye-pooping sum of INR 14 crore to retain the 31-year-old for the IPL 2022 season and appointed him the captain of the team.

However, Mayank Agarwal was not able to lead his side to a playoff spot and PBKS ended the league stage in IPL 2022 at the sixth position with seven wins in 14 games. The Bangalore-born also failed to deliver on the batting front as he could manage mere 196 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 122.50. With Mayank Agarwal unable to justify his price tag, Punjab Kings decided to move past him ahead of the next season.

However, it should not be a surprise if the team management raises the paddle for him at the forthcoming auction. The elegant batter has been a consistent performer for PBKS over the years and Punjab could try to sign him at a reasonable price in IPL Auction 2023. He had scored 424 runs in IPL 2020 and 441 runs in IPL 2021 averaging above 35 on both occasions.

4. Jason Holder- Lucknow Super Giants

Jason Holder has been a proven performer in the shortest format of the game. The 31-year-old is a wily customer with the ball and is a ferocious striker of the cricket ball. Lucknow Super Giants picked the West Indies all-rounder at the IPL 2022 mega auction to provide depth to the side. Though Jason Holder took 14 wickets in 12 games, he leaked runs at an alarming rate of 9.42. The Barbados-born did a decent job with the bat, smashing 58 runs at a strike rate of 131.82.

The veteran all-rounder was not able to perform as per his lofty standards and thus, the Lucknow franchise released him ahead of the IPL auction 2023. However, LSG’s ploy to part ways with Jason Holder could be due to his price tag of INR 8.75 crore. If the ace all-rounder is available at the IPL auction 2023 at a lower price, Lucknow might grab him with both hands. He has put his base price at INR 2 Crores in IPL Auction 2023.

5. Daniel Sams- Mumbai Indians

Daniel Sams was picked up by the Mumbai Indians last year in the mega auction for INR 2.6 Crores and he did perform decently with the ball while the economy rate did get a shattering. However, there aren’t many all-rounders available in the pool who can tonk the ball down the order which will be an area to address for the franchises.

Daniel Sams emerged as a top performer for the Mumbai Indians (MI) last season in the absence of Jofra Archer. He played 11 matches, scalping 13 wickets, including one four-wicket haul.

If the ace all-rounder Daniel Sams is available at the IPL auction 2023 at a lower price, Mumbai might grab him with both hands. Daniel Sams had put his base price at INR 75 Lakhs in IPL Auction 2023.

6. N Jagadeesan- Chennai Super Kings

Last week, N Jagadeesan was one of eight players released by MS Dhoni-led CSK ahead of the IPL auction 2023 on December 23. It brought an end to a four-year stint with the team, during which he’d only played seven games.

N Jagadeesan came into the Vijay Hazare 2022 tournament with three List A hundreds in 36 matches across five years. Nine days on, N Jagadeesan has nearly tripled that tally, becoming the first batter in history to score five consecutive List A centuries.

He made history by scoring 5 consecutive centuries (114 not out, 107, 168, 128, 277) which is unprecedented for any player in the history of World List-A cricket. He was sold to CSK at his base price of INR 20 lakh at the IPL 2022 mega auction earlier this year. He may be bought back by CSK in IPL Auction 2023 for his stunning form in Vijay Hazare Trophy.

7. KS Bharat- Delhi Capitals

KS Bharat is one of the top wicket-keepers in India. He did not have an impressive season last year at Delhi Capitals (DC), but some fans may argue that his role in the team was not clear.

Perhaps DC could have retained him for one more season and given him more opportunities before releasing him. KS Bharat didn’t get many opportunities playing only 2 IPL 2022 games scoring 8 runs for Delhi Capitals and may be bought back as he has set his base price at only INR 20 lakh in the IPL auction 2023.

KS Bharat had set his base price at 20 lakh for the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction. His price went over INR 1 crore very soon and the bidding war was still on between the teams. Delhi Capitals finally got KS Bharat for INR 2 crore in IPL 2022.

8. Gujarat Titans- Jason Roy

Gujarat Titans had bought Jason Roy for INR 2 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction. Citing bio-bubble fatigue, Jason Roy had reportedly decided against featuring in the 15th edition of the T20 league- IPL 2022.

The England opener has a base price of INR 1.5 crore and may be bought again by Gujarat in the IPL Auction 2023 if the base price doesn’t go much up.

9. Rajasthan Royals- Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitcell played only 2 IPL 2022 games for Rajasthan Royals and scored 33 runs and was wicketless. He should have been given more chances. He was bought for his base price of INR 75 Lakh in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He should’ve been given another chance in IPL 2023.

However, the Kiwi all-rounder has shown great promise in the New Zealand colours in Tests and ODIs where he averages 62.73 and 53.28 respectively with the bat. Although his T20I numbers aren’t great, he has the experience of playing 41 T20Is.

He has also done well with both bat and ball in T20 cricket averaging around 30 and 25 in both departments respectively. He may be bought back in IPL Auction 2023. He has registered for a base price of INR 1 Crore for IPL Auction 2023.

10. Royal Challengers Bangalore- Sherfane Rutherford

RCB released only five players, four of whom didn’t feature for the franchise in a single game in IPL 2022. They aren’t expected to buy back players as they have retained most of their core players. Sherfane Rutherford may be the only player RCB buy back at IPL 2023 auction if he’s available at a lesser price.

Sherfane Rutherford played three matches for RCB in IPL 2022 when several first-choice stars were unavailable. He managed 33 runs in two innings at an average of 16.5 and a strike rate of 66 and didn’t bowl a single over.
