After being asked to bat first by Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) posted a competitive total of 174-4. PBKS got off to a shaky start as in the very first over, Atharva Taide was trapped LBW by Mohammed Siraj. Matthew Short came in to bat next, who has got starts but hasn’t converted into a big one. Matthew Short got a game despite Liam Livingstone featuring in the playing 11 as PBKS dropped Raza which was quite strange.

Virat Kohli & Faf du Plessis continued their purple patch as they struck half-centuries and were involved in a huge partnership of 137 runs. The duo took calculative risks as the skipper Faf du Plessis played an invaluable knock of 84 runs in 56 balls as he struck 5 fours & 5 sixes despite having a rib injury.

The left-arm off-spinner Harpreet Brar was the pick of the bowlers as he took 2 massive wickets of Virat Kohli & Glenn Maxwell. PBKS’  bowlers couldn’t pick wickets in the middle overs and it won’t be wrong to say that they gave away 10-15 runs extra on this surface.

At the end of 2 overs, PBKS’ score was 20-1. Wanindu Hasaranga was brought into the attack for the 3rd over, on the very first delivery Matthew Short advanced down the track and wanted to dictate the terms against Hasaranga but the spinner bowled a googly and knocked his stumps.

Matthew Short was dismissed on 8 runs in 7 balls and had struck 1 six. All of a sudden PBKS are in a spot of bother at 20-2 in 2.1 overs. Matthew Short has the knack of playing the role of anchor. RCB would sense that they are in the game after the two wickets.

Crucial Phase for PBKS

All eyes would be on the swashbuckling right-handed batter Liam Livingstone. Livingstone has the knack of playing a breezy knock and would back himself to dominate RCB’s bowling line in the power-play overs.

RCB will have to keep on picking wickets as one partnership of 40-odd runs can change the complexion of the match. It would be interesting to see how the skipper Virat Kohli uses the spinners in the middle overs as we witnessed against LSG & CSK how they were taken to the cleaners.
