Axar Patel, on Monday (April 24), came up with a brilliant all round performance to help Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 runs in a thrilling game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
The allrounder made an impact with both bat and ball as Delhi Capitals registered their second win in the ongoing season. He walked out to bat when DC were reeling at 62 for 5 and played a crucial knock of 34 to help his side post a respectable total of 144 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs.
While scoring 34, he also shared a crucial stand of 69 runs with Manish Pandey who scored 34 too. With the ball, Axar made a big impact too. He dismissed a well-set Mayank Agarwal for 49 to give DC a timely breakthrough. He then dismissed SRH captain Aiden Markram for just 3 to leave SRH reeling at 85 for 5.
Axar Patel named man of the match:
Axar went on to finish the game with impressive spell of 2 for 21 off his 4 overs. SRH just could not recover from those setbacks and eventually finished 7 runs short of DC’s total. Axar was named Man of the Match for his fine performance.
Speaking while receiving the award, the star allrounder said: “Important was 34 in 34. I ordered for coffee and I left the glass like that, when three wickets fell in one over. Pandey and I discussed we need to take it as deep as possible. (On the surface) It was slow, the ball was coming off slowly.I felt that me and Kuldeep can tie up the batters on this surface, so it was enjoyable.”
He then spoke about dismissing Markram, saying: “I keep getting wickets in the form of knocking over batters but getting a wicket off the slower one was enjoyable.”
