Lucknow Super Giants have roped in former South Africa allrounder Lance Klusener as their assistant coach ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The Proteas Great will be working under head coach Justin Langer.

LSG announced the appointment on Friday ( March 1). After bringing down the curtains on his illustrious playing career, Lance Klusener has been plying his trade as a coach for over a decade now. After working with South Africa A, he served as the head coach of South African domestic side Dolphins. It was followed by a stint with Zimbabwe as a batting coach from 2016 to 2018.

He also coached the Lyca Kovai Kings in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Lance Klusener also plied his trade for Rajshahi Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League and Delhi team in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy season. The former cricketer is not new to serving as a coach in IPL as well, having previously worked with Mumbai Indians.

At present, he is also the head coach of Super Giants’ SA20 affiliate (Durban’s Super Giants). Talking about his playing career, Lance Klusener played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa from 1996 to 2004.

Lance Klusener is not the first recruit:

Lance Klusener is not the first recruit in the LSG backroom staff ahead of IPL 2024. The Lucknow-based outfit also appointed Langer as their head coach after Andy Flower parted ways with them and joined Royal Challengers Bangalore. LSG have also appointed former cricketer Sridharan Sriram as an assistant coach.

Recently, they announced the appointment of Nicholas Pooran as their vice-captain. Pooran replaced Krunal Pandya for the post. LSG will be hoping that the spate of changes help them win their first IPL title. They have made a promising start in the IPL, making it to the playoffs in their first two seasons, and will be aiming to go all the way this year.

Meanwhile, IPL 2024 is scheduled to get underway on March 22. Reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be taking on each other in a mouth-watering tournament opener. On the other hand, LSG will be opening their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 24.
