Senior India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to join the Mumbai Indians camp for the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League which starts today with a clash between CSK and RCB. Bumrah took to X (formerly Twitter) earlier today and posted pictures of him entering the team hotel where the MI players are staying over. It will be the right-arm pacer’s first IPL season since 2022 as he missed the entirety of the 2023 season due to a back injury.

Jasprit Bumrah will gradually get into the swing of things for Mumbai’s opening IPL 2024 clash against Gujarat Titans on March 24th at the Narendra Modi stadium. He will be eager to make a mark for his 5-time IPL winning side and he will hope to stage his return with a bang. Bumrah is coming in the back of a hectic 5-match home Test series against England where he registered 19 wickets from the matches in Hyderabad, Vizag, Rajkot, and Dharamshala.

A “hungry” Jasprit Bumrah returns to shatter opposing batting line-ups

Jasprit Bumrah will be hungry, motivated, and determined to once again lead the bowling front of the Mumbai Indians after missing out an entire year. Over the years, Bumrah has been key to MI’s plans and is one of the core members of the team who has helped the outfit claim 5 IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Even if he has never won the Purple cap despite racking up 20+ wickets on a few occasions, Bumrah remains integral to MI’s success. Yes, it does sound shocking but even in his best season with the ball which came in the 2020 season, Bumrah wasn’t able to win the prestigious award, missing out to Kagiso Rabada by just 3 wickets.

In the 2020 season which was the last time MI won the coveted IPL title, Jasprit Bumrah contributed with 27 wickets from 15 matches at an average of 14.96 and an economy rate of just 6.73. Since that edition, Bumrah has registered 21 and 15 wickets respectively in 2021 and 2022 with Mumbai failing to reach the play-offs on both occasions.

But this year when he returns after a year’s hiatus, Jasprit Bumrah will be determined to do not one, but two things. The first is helping MI reclaim their “most successful” IPL team status with a 6th title. The second will be to produce a 25+ wicket season that might earn him the Purple cap for the first time in his IPL career.

Before taking a much-needed 2-week break following the 4-1 Test series win against England, Bumrah will be recharged and revitalized. While that is good news for the Hardik Pandya-led side, it is bad news for opposing batting line-ups.
