Mayank Yadav makes IPL history with back-to-back Player of the Match awards on debut

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav won the Player of the Match (POTM) award against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday, April 2. With the POTM award, Mayank Yadav has scripted history in the Indian Premier League.

After showing a brilliant show in his debut game, Mayank Yadav arrived with another marvelous performance in the RCB vs LSG clash. The right-arm pacer clinched 3 wickets for just 14 runs in his 4-over spell. Yadav’s spell helped Lucknow Super Giants to defend their 181 total against RCB.

Mayank Yadav demolished RCB’s entire middle-order; getting the crucial wickets of Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green. Notably, he dismissed prominent batters Glenn Maxwell for a duck and Cameron Green for 9 runs. Getting their wickets was the biggest turning point in the RCB vs LSG clash.

Mayank Yadav becomes first-ever player to win back-to-back POTM on debut

Mayank Yadav clinched a unique record after winning the Player of the Match award in the RCB vs LSG clash. He became the first-ever player to win back-to-back POTM awards in his first two games. Hence, Yadav has an IPL record dedicated to only his name. Moreover, it will be a tough challenge for any player in the future to grab a similar achievement.

Mayank Yadav made his IPL debut in the previous match vs Punjab Kings. In Lucknow Super Giants’ previous encounter against Punjab Kings, the 21-year-old pacer clinched a 3-wicket haul. He won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding show. Yadav grabbed 3/27 across his 4 overs to drive LSG to victory by 21 runs.

Yadav has made a fabulous start in IPL with 6 wickets in 2 games in IPL 2024. He has an impeccable average of 6.83 and a superb economy of 6.83. The Delhi player is the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024 currently; following CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman (7).

LSG quash RCB by 28 runs

Talking about the RCB vs LSG clash, Lucknow quashed RCB by 28 runs to win the away encounter. Asked to bat first, LSG piled up 181-5 on the scoreboard. Opener Quinton de Kock shattered a stunning 81 runs off 56 for LSG.

Lucknow lost KL Rahul (20) and Devdutt Padikkal (6) cheaply. However, Marcus Stoinis (24) and Nicholas Pooran (40*) helped the team reach a good total of 181-5. RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell captured the most 2 wickets.

Although the chase looked easy for RCB with giants like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell on their side, they crumbled against the deadly pace attack by Mayank Yadav. Virat Kohli (22) and Faf du Plessis (19) failed to fire at the start.

RCB got all out for 153

Maxwell and Green lost their wickets for single digits. Even Dinesh Karthik could not help the team like the previous games, getting out for 4. Mahipal Lomror kept the battle alive with his 33 off 13 towards the climax. However, RCB eventually got all-out a 153 in the 20th over, losing by 28 runs.

LSG has moved to the 4th spot in the points table after crushing RCB. The KL Rahul & Co. has won 2 games and lost 1 out of 3. RCB has moved to the second-last 9th place in the points table. The Faf du Plessis & Boys have lost 3 games and won 1 out of 4 in IPL 2024.
