Mumbai Indians create history with recording-shattering total of 234/5 against Delhi Capitals

Mumbai Indians (MI) achieved a unique feat in the history of T20 cricket on Sunday (7th April). The Hardik Pandya-led posted the highest T20 total without any batter from the team reaching the half-century in the game.
Mumbai Indians achieved the feat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game against Delhi Capitals (DC). The 20th match of the 17th edition of the cash-rich league is currently taking place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Mumbai Indians produced a magnificent effort with the bat, having been asked to bat first. Rohit Sharma began the proceedings on high as he went after the bowlers right from ball 1 and made sure he took his team off the flying start at Wankhede Stadium.
The senior batter played a brutal innings of 49 runs and was supported well by Ishan Kishan. The left-hander also put on a show with the bat and ended with an innings of 42. Both Rohit and Ishan hardly put a foot wrong till the team they batted and added 80 runs for the opening partnership.
After that, Mumbai Indians lost some quick wickets. But skipper Hardik Pandya (39) led the rescue charge for the team and brought his team back into the game. He along with Tim David stitched 60 runs partnership that made sure the home team added some crucial runs in the middle.
Once Hardik was back in the hut, Mumbai Indians batter Tim David unleashed himself. He hit some big blows in the end and made sure that he finished the innings on high. His knock of unbeaten 45 runs was outclassed by Romario Shepherd, who came to bat in the 19th over.
Romario Shepherd took Anrich Nortje to cleaners in the last over the innings. He slammed 32 runs in the last 6 balls, hitting 4,6,6,6,4,6. His powerful innings in the end saw Mumbai Indians posting a big total of 234 runs on the board in their quota of 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians post highest T20 total without anyone reaching fifty
Mumbai Indians with their sensational batting effort topped the unique list in the T20 cricket. They surpassed Somerset's total of 226 runs against Kent in 2018 to post the highest T20 total without anyone reaching fifty. Ireland A also featured in the list when they hit 224 against Nepal A in 2024.
