Gujarat Titans (GT) seamer Mohit Sharma has reckoned that the franchise misses the services of Mohammed Shami in IPL 2024. His words arrived after GT bowlers leaked a lot of runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 7 of IPL 2024.

GT bowlers largely failed to attack CSK batters in the match at Chidambaram Stadium. CSK batters slammed GT bowlers all over the park to post a gigantic 206-7 in 20 overs. It was the first 200-plus total in IPL 2024.

Mohammed Shami was ruled out of IPL 2024 due to an injury. The right-arm pacer was the highest wicket-taker last season and won the purple. Shami was the leading force behind GT’s pace attack for the last two seasons when the franchise reached finals.

Any team is bound to miss a bowler like Mohammed Shami: Mohit Sharma

While speaking in the post-match press conference after the CSK vs GT game, Mohit Sharma highlighted the importance of Mohammed Shami in the Gujarat Titans squad. He said Shami can’t be replaced with anyone and GT misses him in IPL 2024.

“Any team is bound to miss a bowler like [Mohammed] Shami, and you can’t replace him with anyone. But injuries are uncontrollable, and you must see how to move ahead with it,” Sharma was quoted as PTI as saying.

Sharma added that pacers Spencer Johnson and Azmatullah Omarzai will need time to buckle up as they play their debut season in IPL 2024.

“As for GT, it’s the first year for Spencer (Johnson) and Azmatullah (Omarzai). They haven’t played much cricket yet. Therefore, we must be patient with them and not become too result-oriented”, added Sharma, who is the most experienced pacer in the GT squad this season.

We failed to execute our plans properly vs CSK: Mohit Sharma

Speaking about the match, Mohit Sharma said GT bowlers failed to execute their plans in bowling in the match. He also highlighted they bowled slower bowls too early in the match.

“We knew it was going to be a similar scenario, especially with Rachin (Ravindra’s) batting of late. However, we failed to execute our plans properly and also failed to judge the width and length during our bowling.

“We failed in executing our plans properly. We began to bowl the slower ones too early and too wide off the off stump, leading to them scoring freely. It happens that the plans always don’t get executed properly every time”, the 35-year-old pacer further said.
