Senior India pacer Jasprit Bumrah needs as many as 3 wickets later tonight to achieve an incredible feat when he steps out for the Mumbai Indians against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in match number 25 of IPL 2024.
Two of the worst teams in the league so far will clash against each other with the same objective to grab their second win of the season. They will also be battling it out to go higher than each other in the points table as RCB sits in the 9th spot while MI are above them in the 8th position.
This will be Bengaluru's 6th league stage match of the 2024 season and they are coming at the back of a one-sided loss against Rajasthan Royals in their previous match.
Mumbai Indians on the other hand, will enter the Wankhede stadium in full confidence after grabbing their first win of the season against Delhi Capitals by 29 runs, 4 days ago on Sunday, April 7th.
Mumbai had posted this season's 3rd highest total of 234 and another positive for their bowling department was the performance of Jasprit Bumrah.
After the 1st innings batting blitz from Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Tim David and Romario Shepherd, frontline pacer Jasprit Bumrah had unbelievable figures against DC.
Bumrah had the lowest economy rate in the match as he leaked just 5.50 runs per over in his quota of 4 overs. He had also scalped the wickets of two set batsmen - Prithvi Shaw for 66 off 40 and Abhishek Porel for 41 off 31. While Porel was caught out by Tim David, Shaw endured the world-famous toe-crushing yorker from Bumrah.
Jasprit Bumrah 3 wickets away from becoming most successful bowler against RCB
When Jasprit Bumrah steps out to play later today, he will have two objectives on his mind. First will be to help his team continue with their winning ways and second will be to become the most successful bowler against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and he needs just 3 wickets to do so.
Bumrah currently stands at 24 wickets from 18 meetings against the South Indian franchise and he is only behind Sandeep Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja in that list.
Jasprit Bumrah is the joint-second highest wicket-taker against the RCB with Sunil Narine who also has 24 wickets but in 20 matches.
RR pacer Sandeep Sharma, who missed out on stretching his lead recently during his team's 6-wicket win over Bengaluru, has 26 wickets against them from 18 matches. So does CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who has scalped the same amount of wickets but he took 32 matches to do so.
Fans will also be getting the chance to see a face-off between Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, 2 of the world's best cricketers at the moment. Who will win the battler tonight? Time will tell.
