It wasn’t a fairytale ending for Harshal Patel in his debut game for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals. The second game of the 17th edition of the league is taking place at the newly built Stadium in Chandigarh.

Harshal Patel didn’t have the kind of outing he would’ve wanted in the game against Delhi Capitals. He started off pretty well with the ball as he bowled impeccable lines and lengths and produced timely wickets for his team that kept them in the hunt.

Harshal Patel had a great three overs for the team and with the way he was bowling, it seemed that he would finish off pretty well but that wasn’t the case as he didn’t have a fairytale ending and was taking a lot of runs in his last over.

Young Delhi Capitals batter Abishek Porel took him to the cleaners and made sure that Punjab Kings ended the innings on high. The left-hander started the over with a boundary over square leg and if this was not enough he then hit a big six on the second ball of the over.

Abishek Porel then on the third ball pulled the short delivery from Harshal Patel over backward square leg for a four. On the 4th ball of the over, the fast bowler bowled another short delivery to which the batter opened the face of the bat and then ran it past third man for another boundary.

The carnage didn’t stop there as on the 5th ball of the over, Abishek Porel hit the slower ball off Harshal Patel for a big six. The batter swivelled across and then smacked the ball from the pacer over square leg for another maximum.

There was some relief for Harshal Patel on the last ball of the over as he bowled a fuller length delivery on off which was drilled down to long-on by Abishek Porel. The batters tried to get the second run but it wasn’t possible as Kuldeep Yadav got run out.

I translated on the field today what I practiced before – Abishek Porel after his innings

After the innings got over, Abishek Porel, who came as an impact player, opened up about his knock. He stated that he knew 3 overs before that he would be batting. He revealed about his mindset, stating that he did what he had practiced. Speaking to broadcasters, he stated:

“I knew I was going in before 3 overs. And the support staff told me to be ready as you are one of the impact players. I translated on the field today what I practised before. I planned to hit the ball where it came from. 174 is a good score and our bowling unit is good, so let’s see.”

Abishek Porel ended with an innings of 32 runs off 10 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 320 and smashed 4 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. His rollicking effort with the bat powered Delhi Capitals to a total of 174 runs, which at one moment didn’t seem possible.
