Lyca Kovai Kings have been one of the most consistent teams in the first eight seasons of the TNPL. Apart from winning the competition twice, they have progressed to the playoffs in five of the other six seasons.

In the inaugural season in 2016, Lyca Kovai Kings won 4 of their 7 league games and qualified for the semifinals. They bowed out of the tournament after losing to Chepauk Super Gillies in the second semifinal.

In the next season, the Kovai Kings made it to the playoffs once again after finishing fourth in the points table. In the playoffs, they beat Karaikudi Kaalai in the Eliminator before losing to eventual winners Chepauk Super Gillies in the second qualifier.

The Kovai Kings progressed ahead of the league stage in the third season of the TNPL as well. They finished the league stage at the third spot in the points table with 4 wins from 7 games. They won the Eliminator against Karaikudi Kaalai but lost the second qualifier against eventual winners Madurai Panthers.

Kovai Kings failed to progress ahead of the league stage for the first time in 2019. They exited the tournament at the league stage after finishing at the fifth spot with 4 wins from 7 games. In 2020, the TNPL was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kovai Kings made the cut for the playoffs in 2021 as well but once again failed to progress to the final. They finished fourth in the points table at the end of the league stage before losing the Eliminator against Dindigul Dragons.

In 2022, Kovai Kings finally reached the final of TNPL for the first time. Their opponents in the final were defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies. The final was washed out and both the teams were adjudged joint winners.

In the next season, Kovai Kings became only the second team after Super Gillies to defend the title. They finished the league stage at the top of the table with 6 wins from 7 games. They beat Dindigul Dragons in the first qualifier before beating Nellai Royal Kings in the final. In 2024, Kovai Kings finished runners-up after losing to Dindigul Dragons in the title-decider.
