Mohammed Siraj started the downfall for the Kiwis with a fiery spell in the beginning. He sent back Will Young with a lovely delivery before plotting Tom Latham’s dismissal quite smartly. His best delivery was yet to come and Ross Taylor was on the receiving end of it.

Soon after, the spin trio of Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jayant Yadav picked up a wicket each as the Indians brought the Kiwis down to 38/6 at Tea. After the break, the hosts needed just a few more overs to run through the lower order and the New Zealand side ended with just 62 on the board.

Virat Kohli didn’t opt to enforce the follow-on to pile on the misery and the openers, Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara, in the absence of Shubman Gill, put on another 50-run partnership to take India to Stumps at 69/0 with a lead of 332 runs.
