Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra noted that the Indian spinners Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin bowled exceedingly well and led India in the fightback against New Zealand. India gave away a lot of runs in the powerplay however, once the spinners came into the attack, the run flow had stopped from the Kiwis bat.

Axar finished with figures of one for 26 in the match while Ashwin was much more economical giving away just 19 runs in his 4 over spell and picking up a wicket as well. It did block the momentum for New Zealand who was on a roll at the start of the innings.

“Difficult To Bowl Spin With An Extremely Wet Ball” – Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra reckoned that the spinners Ashwin and Axar set up the win for India by constraining the New Zealand batsman and mentioned the difficulty of bowling with the wet ball. He added that they played a big part in India winning the game and noted the way New Zealand batters were going after the bowling in the first six overs.

“Ashwin and Axar together took a couple of wickets, they were economical as well. In my opinion, both of them set the match, let’s be very honest. It is difficult to bowl spin with an extremely wet ball, both bowled exceedingly well and brought India back in the match. In fact, in my opinion they won India the match.”

“The start Guptill and Mitchell had given, they were smashing it from the first over. They started batting as though they are going to post 200-225 runs. They demolished the Indian bowlers in the first six overs,” Aakash Chopra told on his Youtube Channel.

Aakash Chopra Explains The Spinner’s Impact

Aakash Chopra explained the way India pulled back things after an astonishing powerplay for New Zealand and mentioned that the middle overs were amazing from the spinners to dealt the run flow.

“When you score 64 runs in the powerplay and still do not post a total of 154, it means you didn’t even score 90 runs in the last 14 overs, it implies the spinners bowled amazingly well, whether it was Ashwin or Axar Patel,” he added.
