IND vs NZ 2021: Maharashtra Government Allows Only 25% Capacity For 2nd Test Between India & New Zealand At Wankhede

The Maharashtra Government has issued an order stating that Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) can host the second Test match of the two-match series between the India National Cricket Team and New Zealand National Cricket Team at a maximum of 25% seating capacity.

The second Test match of the New Zealand tour of India is set to begin from December 3 to 7 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The Wankhede Stadium has a seating capacity of around 33,000 and during the India vs New Zealand Test match, it is expected to accommodate not more than 8,500 spectators. This comes as bad news for the cricket fans in Mumbai who were waiting to attend the high-profile battle between the top two Test teams in the world.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 situation is in control in the state but the state authorities are being extra cautious to make sure that the new variant of the Covid-19 virus which has emerged in South Africa doesn’t occur in Mumbai.

According to the official order issued by the government all the players, officials and spectators will have to be fully vaccinated who will be entering the stadium. Also, the fans need to wear masks at all times and they need to maintain social distancing.

The department of Revenue and Forest, Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation of the Maharashtra government stated:

In the case of open to sky spaces, for any events or gatherings, people upto 25% of space capacity will be allowed. Concerned DDMA shall have authority to decide the capacity in case of such locations of gatherings or events, if not declared formally (like stadiums).”

Talking, about the New Zealand Tour of India, Rohit Sharma-led India won the T20I series by 3-0 and the first Test match between the teams is taking place at Green Park, Kanpur.
