Rohit Sharma did not lead India in the recent IND vs SL T20I series. In his absence, Hardik Pandya led the team in the series. Officially, Rohit Sharma is the skipper of Team India in all three formats. However, many rumors claim that BCCI is going to opt for split captaincy soon.

Rohit Sharma is all set to return to the field after recovering from a finger injury in IND vs SL ODI series. Now, he should also be picked as a skipper in the forthcoming IND vs NZ T20I series. IND vs NZ: 3 Reasons Why Rohit Sharma Should Return As India’s T20 Captain

3. Long Experience As Skipper in IPL

Although Rohit Sharma has led Team India for a short time, he has a good experience as a skipper for his team Mumbai Indians in IPL. Sharma took the team’s captainship in IPL 2013 and is still the captain of the franchise in IPL.

Under his tenure, Sharma also led Mumbai Indians to 5 IPL titles, the most than any other team. Hence, Sharma owns a lot of experience as a T20I skipper. In contrast, Hardik Pandya has led Gujarat Titans in IPL in only 1 season.

2. Good Record As Skipper For India

Rohit Sharma has only led Team India for over a year but holds a good record. So far, Sharma has led India in 51 T20Is. India has won 39 games and lost only 12. Hence, Sharma owns a winning record of 76.47. This is more than MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. While MS Dhoni had a winning record of 59.28%, Kohli had a winning record of 64.58 in T20Is.

In the bilateral T20 series too, Sharma has held a good record. After Sharma became the T20I skipper in November 2021, India has not lost any bilateral T20I series. Although failing to win Asia Cup 2022 and the semi-final exit in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 can be termed two setbacks for Sharma, the team has done an amazing job in the bilateral series.

1. Deserve More Opportunities

Rohit Sharma became the T20I skipper in November 2021. It has been only about a year. Hence, Sharma deserves more opportunities as the T20I skipper to showcase his value to the leadership. The previous two T20I skippers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli led the team for a long time. Hence, Sharma also deserves more tenure as a T20I skipper.
