IND vs NZ: Gautam Gambhir Reckons Prithvi Shaw To Open The Batting For India In The T20 World Cup Next Year

If players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are no longer in the running for the T20 World Cup the next year, Gautam Gambhir envisions Prithvi Shaw starting the batting for India.

India’s team for the current T20I series against New Zealand includes Shaw. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill were picked ahead of the Mumbai opener in the first two games, therefore he received no playing time.

When asked about why India does not play Prithvi Shaw in the T20 format during an interview on the Star Sports program “Match Point,” Gautam Gambhir replied: “I was taken aback once more. I believe you must give him a chance and a longer rope, particularly in the T20 format, because I see him starting the batting in 2024 if selectors begin to look beyond Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.”

Gautam Gambhir believes Shubman Gill is more suited to the shorter format of cricket despite the fact that he has thrived in one-day internationals, saying:

“Shubman Gill has performed admirably in the 50-over format, but Prithvi Shaw is the player in this side for whom T20 is his game, and he plays it extremely naturally.”

Gautam Gambhir thinks Shaw and Ishan Kishan can offer the Men in Blue much-needed explosive starts, noting:

“You have to stick with Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan, and those players can actually go out there and play with the template that we have been talking about for so long.”

In the one T20I he has so far played, Shaw was out for a golden duck. He has a remarkable strike rate of 151.67 in 92 T20s, though, and will be hoping for an opportunity in the final T20I against the Kiwis on February 1 in Ahmedabad.
