IND vs NZ: Gautam Gambhir Thinks Prithvi Shaw And Ishan Kishan Should Be India's Permanent Openers In T20Is

Former batsman Gautam Gambhir believes Ishan Kishan and Prithvi Shaw should be Team India’s permanent openers in Twenty20 Internationals. Shaw recently returned to the national squad for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand, which begins on Friday, January 27.

Both India’s regular openers, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul will miss the next three-match T20I series against New Zealand, which begins later this month.

Gambhir pleaded with the Indian team’s management to support the 23-year-old Shaw and give the batter more time. Shaw is a player who can attack the bowlers and win matches, according to Gambhir, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in December 2018.

“He shouldn’t have been out anyway as whenever he has got an opportunity, he has given India that kind of an explosive start. He is the right guy. He, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav perfectly fit the template India keeps talking about. Now that you have picked Shaw, persist with him,” Gautam Gambhir was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

“Don’t judge him by every series. He is young, he is explosive and he is a match-winner. So pick him in the playing XI and give him a longer run,” Gautam Gambhir stated.

He advised Gill to concentrate primarily on Tests and ODIs after the young player just made his T20Is debut and so far appeared in three matches for India.

“Shubman Gill needs to concentrate on Test and ODI cricket. Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan should be your permanent openers in T20Is,” Gautam Gambhir added.

Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, and the returning Prithvi Shaw are India’s starting possibilities for the New Zealand series.
