New Zealand Cricket Team lost the 2nd T20I match by 6 wickets. The Men in Blue chased down the target of 100 runs in 19.5 overs. Suryakumar Yadav played a sensible knock of 26 runs in 31 balls where he struck a solitary four and was keen on rotating the strike.

Suryakumar Yadav had got a reprieve when he was on 11 runs when Jacob Duffy misjudged the ball at the deep backward square leg. Skipper Hardik Pandya formed a match-winning partnership of 31 runs. Pandya scored 15 runs in 20 balls where he struck 1 four and batted quite smartly.

Dinesh Karthik on Suryakumar Yadav

Dinesh Karthik was having an interaction with Cricbuzz and was asked about Suryakumar Yadav.

“His choice of shots was interesting. I think he was trying throughout the innings to be the speedboat that he is.

“For example, he went for that massive sweep on a big ground even though all four fielders were back on the leg side and that was not the best option for me. That is an area he needs to keep improving on. To get those boundaries in these chases and try and be very effective at it,” said Dinesh Karthik.

“If he had gotten out to that shot, he would have looked back and said that is probably the toughest shot to get a six. The wicket is slow, the bowler is not bowling very fast and you are trying to clear deep square leg on a big boundary.

“The odds are stacked heavily against you and that is why I say that while it wasn’t his most fluent innings, tactically it wasn’t his best either. The good thing is that he stayed till the end and made it happen and that was nice,” he added.

Concerns for India

The likes of Tripathi, Ishan & Shubman are not performing according to their credentials which has started to hurt the team. The management surprisingly promoted Washington Sundar at the No.5 position where he scored 10 runs in 9 balls as he had a massive confusion between him & Suryakumar Yadav.

The management should use Deepak Hooda at the no.3 position as the batter can hold one end as Rahul Tripathi has looked quite scratchy. It would be interesting to see whether Chahal retains his spot after picking up a wicket in 2 overs where he gave away 4 runs.
