Young India batter Shubman Gill scored his second ODI century in the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, January 15. Former Indian all-rounder and World Cup winner Madan Lal said Gill has repaid the team management’s faith in him.
The 23-year-old scored 116 off 97 balls with 14 fours and two sixes to help India beat Sri Lanka by a big margin of 317 runs. Gill was picked ahead of in-form batsman Ishan Kishan, and he has justified his selection with his performances in this series. He scored a well-composed half-century of 70 runs off 60 balls in the first ODI.

This Will Keep Him In Good Stead – Madan Lal
Speaking to Sports Tak, Madan Lal said that Shubman Gill’s performance against Sri Lanka will help him gain confidence to perform against New Zealand and Australia in the upcoming series.

“Shubman Gill is the best example of how a good player will repay your faith with consistent performances if you give him a consistent rope. He scored a seventy and a hundred and this will keep him in good stead with teams like New Zealand and Australia to follow,” Madan Lal said.

India’s Biggest Gain Has Been The Variety In Their Bowling – Sunil Gavaskar
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said that bowling was the biggest gain for the Men in Blue in the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. Gavaskar believes that Jasprit Bumrah’s return from injury will make the Indian team even stronger.

“India’s biggest gain has been the variety in their bowling. We always knew that India has great depth in their batting with the likes of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav on the bench.
“But the way Siraj has bowled and the way Kuldeep has made a comeback, I am hopeful that when Bumrah comes back from his injury, the Indian bowling will be even stronger and will perform well in the Asia Cup as well as the World Cup,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
