The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar grabbed an absolutely insane catch to dismiss the 28-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team batter Mark Chapman in the first T20I.

The JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi is hosting the T20I series opener of the three-match series between the Hardik Pandya-led India National Cricket Team and the Mitchell Santner-led New Zealand National Cricket Team on Friday, January 27.

Washington Sundar came to bowl the 5th over of the innings and on the first ball he got smashed for a six. However, then he made a great comeback by dismissing the explosive opener Finn Allen on the very next ball.

Allen scored 35 runs off 23 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes. The next three deliveries bowled by Sundar were brilliant and the Kiwi batter Chapman looked completely clueless against the Indian spinner.

On the last ball of the over, Washington Sundar delivered a slow good length ball to Chapman pitching on the off-stump and the Kiwi batter pushed forward in defence but was unable to keep it down. As the ball went towards the non-striker’s end, Sundar dived full-length to his right to grab a sensational one-handed catch.

New Zealand Post 47/2 In Powerplay vs India

Earlier, the coin landed in Hardik Pandya’s favour and India National Cricket Team elected to bowl first in the match. Prithvi Shaw was unable to make it to the playing XI and Kuldeep Yadav was preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal.

New Zealand National Cricket Team, on the other hand, made two notable changes to the playing XI as Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls were replaced by Mark Chapman and Ish Sodhi.

Batting first, the BlackCaps posted 47/2 on the board in the powerplay as India used 4 bowlers – Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Hooda and Sundar – in the first six overs.

Talking further about Sundar, the youngster has now picked up 15 wickets in the powerplay in T20Is, which is the second most by an Indian spinner. Only Ravichandran Ashwin is above Sundar with 17 wickets in his bag.
