After India let up their most costly final over in T20Is, former player Aakash Chopra questioned the lack of fast bowler Harshal Patel. Arshdeep Singh let up 27 runs in the final over of the first innings while playing against New Zealand in the first T20I of the three-game series, bringing the visitors’ total to 176/6 in their 20 overs.
In the lead-up to the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, Harshal Patel appeared to be one of India’s primary bowlers. Chopra inquired about his location on Twitter. Patel was not able to play a game after Mohammed Shami’s stunning return to the Indian T20I lineup extremely late in the tournament’s preparation.

Haven’t Seen Harshal Patel Since World Cup: Aakash Chopra
During the opening match of the India-New Zealand T20I series, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra posed a direct query to the decision-makers.
After the disappointing 2021 T20 World Cup, Harshal Patel has made his way into the Indian lineup. Harshal was granted a very lengthy run in the Indian T20I side as a specialist bowler following an outstanding IPL stint. He participated in 21 games leading up to the T20 World Cup in 2022, taking 22 wickets.

He later missed the Asia Cup due to an injury. He came back for the T20 World Cup, however he was one of just two players who didn’t take part in any matches. After the World Cup, he played in just one game each in the Sri Lanka and New Zealand series, and he is currently not selected for the match against New Zealand.
“What’s the update on Harshal Patel? Is he still nursing an injury? He was our T20 specialist leading into the World Cup…didn’t get to play in Aus. Haven’t seen him since. #IndvNZ,” tweeted Aakash.

It is doubtful that the selectors will choose Harshal again at this point in his 32-year career. India is considering younger pace alternatives like Shivam Mavi, Arshdeep Singh, and Umran Malik in preparation for the T20 World Cup the following year.
