NZ vs IND:- India Playing 11 vs New Zealand, 2nd ODI, 2023.  New Zealand will clash with India in the 2nd ODI of the ongoing series. NZ vs IND 2nd ODI takes place on January 21 (Saturday). Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur is the venue of the match.  New Zealand lost the 1st ODI by 12 runs. Now, the visitors will aim to make a comeback in the series by winning the 2nd ODI.

In the 1st NZ vs IND ODI, Shubman Gill grabbed all the attraction with his record-breaking double ton, becoming the youngest batter to score a double century in ODIs. Shubman Gill smashed 208 runs in just 149 balls, smacking 19 fours & 9 sixes. However, the 2nd highest score in the team was Rohit Sharma’s 34 runs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 runs while none of the other batters managed to cross the 30-run mark.

Defending a total of 349, Indian bowlers were given a mighty scare by the Kiwi lower-order batters. However, the Mohammed Siraj-led Indian bowling attack bowled well to the top order, diminishing New Zealand to 131/6 in a high-run chase. Mohammed Siraj was yet again the top-wicket taker with 4 wickets to his name (4/46), while Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur registered 2 wickets each.

Shardul Thakur bowled the last over under high pressure and managed to seal the match with a prized wicket of Michael Bracewell who scored 140. Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya also registered 1 wicket each in the first NZ vs IND ODI.

For New Zealand, Devon Conway had the most expectations on his back but failed to live up with just 10 runs to his name in the first NZ vs IND ODI. His opening partner Finn Allen scored 40 runs off 39 balls but failed to score bigger. After the specialist batters failed, Michael Bracewell came on and along with Mitchell Santner, brought the Kiwis unbelievably close to a win. Michael Bracewell scored 140 runs and was well-assisted by Mitchell Santner’s 57 runs.

The bowling was pretty average in the absence of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Matt Henry, and Ish Sodhi as the Kiwis conceded a total of 349 runs while bowling first. Henry Shipley and Daryl Mitchell grabbed 2 wickets each while Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner, and Mitchell Santner managed 1 wicket each.

NZ vs IND 1st ODI: Brief Scores: India 349/8 (Shubman Gill 208, Rohit Sharma 34; Daryl Mitchell 2-30) won by 12 runs against New Zealand: 337 (Michael Bracewell 140, Mitchell Santner 57, Mohammed Siraj 4/46).

The key strength of India had been its batting order and they crossed 350 runs in the previous four matches when they batted first. The key batters of India like Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill had been in superb form and had scored back-to-back hundreds. Rohit Sharma also had been good and his six-hitting capability had improved.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are other batsmen who can put a big total on the board for India in this 2nd NZ vs IND ODI match. Ishan Kishan is not playing as an opener and that is the main reason why he was not much impressive in the previous NZ vs IND match.

Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav had been good among the bowlers. Both bowlers picked wickets in each and every match they played. Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur were part of the playing eleven of the previous NZ vs IND match and Umran Malik may get a chance to play this NZ vs IND 2nd ODI match.

New Zealand lost the first match by the margin of just 12 runs and they showed up why they are the number one ODI team in the world. Six key batsmen of the Kiwi team went back to the pavilion at a total of just 136 runs while chasing the target of 350 runs but Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell took the charge and reduced the winning margin for India. They were just brilliant in tough conditions and one expects that they will also perform well in this match.

He scored a total of 140 runs off just 78 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and 10 huge sixes. Mitchell Santner scored 57 runs while Finn Allen could manage to score 40 runs.

Shubman Gill was Man of the series in the ODI series against West Indies and Zimbabwe where he amassed 205 and 245 runs respectively averaging 102.5 and 122.5. He hit his maiden century- a career-best 130 against Zimbabwe after scoring 98* against West Indies when rain intervened and he was denied a ton.

The Punjab opener is in tremendous ODI form as he hit back-to-back centuries against Sri Lanka (116) and New Zealand (208). His majestic 208 off just 149 balls in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI took India to 349/8. At 23 years & 132 days, Shubman Gill also became the youngest-ever player to score a double hundred in ODI.

Shubman Gill hit a staggering 19 fours and 9 sixes in his scintillating knock. He hit a hat-trick of sixes in the 49th over to bring his 200. He became the fifth Indian male cricketer to register an ODI double-century. He will look to continue in the same vein in the 2nd ODI of the NZ vs IND 3-match ODI series. He averages 68.88 having amassed 1102 runs in 19 ODIs.

Ishan Kishan

Young Ishan Kishan got his chance in the third and final inconsequential ODI against Bangladesh at Chattogram against Bangladesh after captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out due to an injury. Ishan Kishan eventually perished for 210 off 131 balls.

His innings was laced with 10 sixes and 24 boundaries. Ishan Kishan became the fourth Indian to hit a double hundred in ODI cricket. Ishan Kishan completed the 200 in just 126 deliveries, which is now the fastest double-hundred ever scored.

He was the first batter to convert his maiden ODI 100 to 200. In 11 ODIs, he has amassed 482 runs averaging 48.2 with 1 ton and 3 fifties. He will look to continue in the same vein in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He was dismissed for only 5 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI while batting in the middle order and might be promoted to open in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI.

Rohit Sharma (C)

The right-handed batter and Indian current skipper Rohit Sharma has shown decent form in the ODIs though he has failed to convert starts into big tons. Rohit Sharma opened with Shikhar Dhawan in the ODI series against Bangladesh before a thumb injury ruled him out of the 3rd ODI and Test series.

In the last few innings, he scored 27 and 51* (against Bangladesh), 83,17, and 42 (against Sri Lanka), and 34 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI. His last ODI ton came in January 2020 against Australia.

Virat Kohli

The 34-year-old middle-order batter run machine Virat Kohli scored consecutive ODI tons -113 vs Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI and 113 vs Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI before adding one in the last ODI (3 tons in 4 innings). A good show in the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022, where he was among the leading run-getters, gave him the necessary confidence to return to form in ODIs too and he responded by scoring 113 in the last inconsequential ODI against Bangladesh.

His 113 off 87 balls in the 1st SL vs IND ODI was laced with 12 fours and a six and he was an obvious choice for Man of the Match. He scored only 4 in the 2nd SL vs IND ODI but scored an unbeaten 166 off 110 (13 fours, 8 sixes, strike rate of 150.91) and was awarded both MOM and MOS in the 3rd SL vs IND ODI. He scored only 8 off 10 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has hit 2 fifties but has failed to convert fifties into tons. His highest ODI score is only 64 against West Indies in February 2022. But he is having an excellent run of form in T20Is, where he has hit 3 tons and 13 fifties and averages 45+ at an outstanding strike rate of 180+. He is currently ranked No. 1 in T20Is by ICC.

The 32-year-old right-handed batter wasn’t in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series and wasn’t in the playing XI against Sri Lanka in the 1st  and 2nd ODI but replaced Hardik Pandya (who was rested) in the 3rd ODI. He scored only 4 off as many balls in the 3rd SL vs IND ODI.

KL Rahul isn’t named in the upcoming home New Zealand limited over series due to family commitments and Suryakumar Yadav will want to take full advantage of this opportunity. He averages 29.93 in 18 ODIs amassing 419 runs. He will look to continue his T20I form in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He scored 31 off 26 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya, the 29-year-old pace all-rounder, was rested for the ODI series against Zimbabwe and West Indies, and his last ODI series before the SL ODIs was against England in July 2022. He scored 71 and picked 4/24 in the last 3rd ODI against England to bag the MOS award for scoring 100 runs and picking 6 scalps in that series.

He wasn’t named in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series. The pace all-rounder scored 14 and took 1/33 in 6 overs in the first SL vs IND ODI and returned with figures of 0/26 (5 overs) and 36 off 53 in the second SL vs IND ODI. He was rested for the 3rd inconsequential ODI.

He will look to continue in the same vein in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He scored 28 off 38 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI before being controversially dismissed and was expensive with the ball returning with figures of 1/70 in only 7 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav has featured in 76 ODIs since his debut way back in 2017 in the 50 overs format and has picked 126 scalps averaging 27.59 at an economy of 5.19. He will look to continue in the same vein in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He picked 2/43 in 8 overs in 1st NZ vs IND ODI.

The veteran pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the ODI and Test series against Bangladesh due to a right shoulder injury.  He will look to continue his form in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He picked 1/69 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI bowling his full quota of 10 overs. He now has 156 scalps in 86 ODIs averaging 26.34 at an economy of 5.63.

Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj debuted in ODIs way back in January 2019 but has played sporadically. He has picked 37 scalps in 20 ODIs averaging 21 at an impressive economy rate of 4.72. In the recently concluded IND vs SL ODI series, he picked 9 scalps in 3 ODIs averaging 10.22 to emerge as the highest wicket-taker. His career-best figures of 4/32 came in the 3rd SL vs IND ODI. In the 1st NZ vs IND ODI, he continued his form by picking 4/46.
