A marvelous fielder! This is what comes to mind when we talk about Mohammed Kaif. He was a dominant batsman for India in the early 2000s. Mohammad Kaif is a cricketer-turned-commentator now but also plays in the Legends League- a tournament for retired players.
Mohammad Kaif was a right-handed batsman and among the best fielders to date for India. He used to bat in the middle order and was also part of the Indian Team that reached the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2003.
Family and Personal Life
Mohammed Kaif was born on December 1, 1990, in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh to father Mohammad Tarif Ansari and mother Kaisar Jahan. He was from a middle-class family and grew up with his brother Mohammad Saif, who also happens to be a cricketer.
Early and Domestic Career
Mohammad Kaif got his first break when he became a member of the Uttar Pradesh Team in the domestic circuit in 1998. He remained with the same franchise till 2014. Later, he moved to Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2016 and Chhattisgarh from 2016 to 2018.
International Career
Mohammad Kaif made his international debut in 2000 with a Test match against South Africa. He went on to play 13 games till 2006, hitting 624 runs in 22 innings. However, he made a big name in ODIs and played a total of 125 matches.
He was known for his fabulous fielding and batting in the middle order. During his ODI career from 2002 to 2006, he slammed 2753 runs across 110 innings. He held a decent average of 32+.
Kaif never played any T20I games for India as his career ended before the T20 trend came into international cricket. Kaif also played in the Indian Premier League but did not get regular chances.
IPL Career
Mohammad Kaif played a total of 29 games during his short career in the Indian Premier League. He scored 259 runs at 14.39 batting average with a top knock of 34 in one match.
He was part of Rajasthan Royals in his debut edition in 2008-2009. Later, he moved to Rajasthan Royals in the 2010 season. He was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2011 and 2012 edition and it was his last stint in the league.
