'A pacer in making'- these words correctly define Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar, who has played for Team India in all three formats. Mukesh Kumar is an Indian pacer who made his international debut in 2023.
Mukesh Kumar is a right-arm medium pacer who has played a handful of games for India. However, with his impressive show, he has been seen as a powerful prospect for the future.
Nowadays, most players grab attention in IPL and then get a place in the national side. However, Kumar’s story is different. He rose to the ranks with his performance for the India A team and was then picked in the Indian Premier League for an expensive price.
Early Life and Career
Mukesh Kumar was born in Gopalganj City in Bihar on October 12, 1993. The right-arm pacer moved to Kolkata in 2012 to pursue his dream of becoming a cricketer.
His late father Kashi Nath Singh was a taxi driver in Kolkata. His mother Malti Devi was a homemaker. Kumar grew up with his only brother and four sisters. He married Divya Singh in 2023.
Mukesh Kumar's big break came in 2015 when he made his first-class debut for the Bengal team in the Ranji Trophy. He became a regular member of the Bengal domestic team after his debut.
International Career
After a spectacular performance in the Junior Indian team, Mukesh Kumar was picked for the West Indies tour in July 2023, where he made his international debut.
His first game for Team India was a Test match against West Indies in July 2023. In the same series, he also played his first ODI and T20I match for India.
Kumar got regular chances after his debut and became an emerging player for Team India. However, he has only played a few games in each format and looks forward to cementing his permanent place as a pacer.
IPL Career
Like international cricket, Mukesh Kumar has a short career in IPL too. He is not known to be a T20I specialist. However, considering his success in the national team, Delhi Capitals bought him in the IPL 2023 auction for a price of Rs. 5.50 crore.
In the 2023 season, Mukesh Kumar grabbed 7 wickets for Delhi Capitals at an economy of 10+. When key pacers for the side failed to perform, Kumar showed brilliant form and played in the second half of the season. He was retained for the 2024 season too.
