"A dominant middle-order batsman"- these words truly justify Nitish Rana and is also one of the reasons why Kolkata Knight Riders have retained him over the years in IPL.
Nitish Rana has only played a few international games but is a dominant figure in IPL.
Nitish Rana is a left-handed batsman who plays in the middle-order. He is also a right-arm off-spinner, however, he has only bowled on rare occasions. He made his international debut in 2021 but has only featured in 3 international games since then.
Early Life and Career
Nitish Rana was born on December 27, 1993 in Delhi. He has a sister named Vishakha Rana. He married Saachi Marwah in 2019. Rana rose to the ranks through domestic cricket.
He became a member of the Delhi domestic team in 2011. Later, he was picked by the Indian Premier League by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2015. However, he gained a lot of fame with Kolkata Knight Riders.
With his consistent show, he became a reliable middle-order batsman for the side. As a result, the franchise has retained him over the years in IPL.
IPL and International Career
Nitish Rana made his international debut in 2021 during a Sri Lanka tour. He was part of the second-string Indian squad that toured Sri Lanka for an ODI and T20I series.
However, due to his poor outings in the series, he was overlooked by selectors later.
Nitish Rana made an entry into the IPL in the 2015 season when Mumbai Indians picked him into their squad. However, he was benched in his first season and played 4 games in 2015.
In the 2017 season, he slammed 333 runs in 13 games for the Mumbai Indians and gained a lot of limelight. Later in the IPL 2018 mega auction, Kolkata Knight Riders picked him into their squad.
Hitting 300-plus runs since the 2018 season and 350-plus runs since 2020, Nitish Rana has been a consistent performer for KKR. The franchise has retained him over the years and also made him the captain in the 2023 season in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
