Early Life and Career
Tilak Varma was born in Hyderabad City in Telangana on November 8, 2022. His father Namboori Nagaraju is an electrician while moth Gayatri Devi is a homemaker. He grew up in Hyderabad with his elder brother Tarun Varma.
Varma started playing tennis cricket in his childhood with coach Salim Bayash, who coached him till his journey to the national side.
Hyderabad domestic team picked him in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season, which was his debut in domestic cricket. Later, he became a regular member of Hyderabad in the domestic circuit.
He was also part of the Indian team in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. After his successful show in domestic cricket, Mumbai Indians picked him in the IPL, which set the stage for his international debut.
International Career
Post a spectacular show in IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians, Tilak Varma made his international debut during a T20I game against West Indies in August 2023. He soon made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023.
The left-handed batsman has played a few ODI games and T20Is but has been impressive with the bat. Varma has already stormed 1 half-century and 2 half-centuries. He is a powerful middle-order batsman and looks like a promising batter for the future.
IPL Career
Tilak Varma was picked by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Post his brilliant batting show, he has been retained by the side. Varma has become a crucial member of the batting unit.
Varma has played 35 games in the Indian Premier League and holds a 40+ average and a strike rate of around 150. He has also smashed 6 half-centuries in the tournament so far.
Tilak was part of the India U-19 Team that finished as runners-up in ICC U-19 World Cup 2020. He also won the Asian Games 2023 in China with the Indian team.
