Karachi Kings take on Multan Sultans in the first match of the PSL 2021-22 on Thursday at National Stadium, Karachi. Multan Sultans won the tournament last year and would look to defend the title this time around.

The defending champions retained as many as seven players, namely Mohammad Rizwan, Rilee Rossouw, Sohaib Maqsood, Imran Tahir, Shan Masood, Khushdil Shah, and Shahnawaz Dahani. Mohammad Rizwan will continue to lead the team.

To add more firepower in the middle-order, they have added Tim David in the team. He is one of the most explosive batsmen but his recent form is a bit of a concern. They also have got David Willey, who too has the ability to play quick-fire cameos in the death overs.

Fast bowling shouldn’t be a worry for Multan Sultans. Shahnawaz Dahani took the most number of wickets last year. He will be an integral part of the bowling unit. David Willey’s experience should keep the team in good stead. Besides, they have also got the likes of Blessing Muzarabani, Rumman Raees etc.

Karachi Kings finished the league stage at number four on the points table. They, however, couldn’t reach the finals as they lost to Peshawar Zalmi in the Eliminator. Ahead of a new season, Karachi Kings would look to start on a positive note with an aim to win the title.

Babar Azam has taken over the leadership duties from Imad Wasim for the upcoming edition. Karachi Kings have retained eight players from the last edition. Babar Azam will once again be seen opening the batting alongside Sharjeel Khan. Joe Clarke is there in the squad, who will give a lot more firepower in the batting department. The trio makes it a solid top-order.

In the middle-order, they have got the likes of M Nabi and Imad Wasim. Besides, they have added Lewis Gregory, who will add depth in the batting order. The presence of these three all-rounders will give a lot more balance to the squad.

As far as the pace-bowling department is concerned, Karachi Kings will rely on the services of Mohammed Amir and Chris Jordan. The latter is their latest acquisition. Though, he will join the squad a bit later in the tournament.
