Babar Azam played an unbeaten knock of 75 but still could not help his side from losing the match against Islamabad United in PSL 2023. Ultimately, it was Islamabad who won the match by six wickets and are placed second on the points table. Peshawar, on the other hand, are placed fourth.
Match 12 in PSL 2023 was between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United in the PSL with Peshwar scoring 156/8 in their 20 overs. Babar anchored the innings with his unbeaten 75 with Mohammad Haris scoring 40 off 21 opening the batting. None of the other batters could contribute much with Pedhsawar finally scoring a below-par total. Hasan Ali picked up on 3/35.

Islamabad was off to a rollicking start in the chase with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 62 off 31 balls striking at 200. Rassie van der Dussen scored 42 off 29 balls before being run out. In the end, Asif Ali finished off the innings by scoring 29 off 13 balls with three sixes to win the game inside 15 overs for his side.

Meanwhile, there was a funny moment in the game involving Babar Azam and Hasan Ali. Ali was cunningly trying to diver Babar’s attention from taking the single and trying to inflict a runout. The Pakistan skipper while trying to complete the single threatened to hit his national team teammate with the bat. Seeing Babar showing his bat towards him, Ali was quick to move out of the way enabling Babar to complete the single. Both the players could see the funny side of it as the event ended in good fun.

Ahead of the start of PSL 2023, Babar joined Peshawar Zalmi and was named the skipper of the franchise. Under his leadership, Karachi Kings lost nine consecutive games in PSL 2022.
A total of 34 matches will take place during PSL 2023. During the league stage, each team will face the other team twice. After the league stage, the top 4 teams in the points table will reach playoffs. The bottom 2 teams will be eliminated. The final will be played on March 19 in Lahore.
