Cricketer-turned commentator Aakash Chopra feels that Rishabh Pant let down during the IND vs SA T20I series with his poor batting show. However, he also termed the Indian wicketkeeper as an X-factor for the team. His words arrive after Rishabh Pant’s dismal batting show in IND vs SA T20I series.
Rishabh Pant, who was the captain of India in the series, scored just 58 runs in 5 games at an average of 14.50. He held a low strike rate of 105+. Moreover, Pant also lost his wicket while trying to smash big shots to off-wide deliveries, losing his wicket in a similar fashion every time.
Rishabh Pant Let Down During IND vs SA T20I Series: Aakash Chopra
While speaking on his Youtube channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra said that Rishabh Pant let down with his batting show in the IND vs SA T20I series. However, Chopra also mentioned that he is an X-factor for India as he is the only left-handed batsman in the entire batting order.
“The third name is Rishabh Pant. He was the captain in the series and when someone is the captain, you feel that he is secure. A lot of people, including myself, were of the opinion that there was no need for him to give an audition because he is one of the first names you would want to put when you prepare the squad,” Chopra said.
“He is our X-factor. You get only one left-hander in the entire batting order, the rest all are right-handers. You never know whether Ishan Kishan will get a chance or not and Jaddu comes in the end, so Rishabh Pant is very very important and integral to India’s scheme of things. There will not be a lot of hues and cries if someone decides to leave out Rishabh Pant, and if such hues and cries are not generated, it means there is a problem. I feel he has also gone slightly back,” Aakash Chopra further added.
India managed to tie the series 2-2. South Africa won the 1st T20I by 7 wickets and the 2nd T20I by 4 wickets. India won the 3rd T20I by 48 runs and the 4th T20I by 82 runs. The IND vs SA 5th T20I was washed out due to rain. As a result, the series ended in a 2-2 tie. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was picked as the player of the series.
