India take on South Africa in a white-ball series comprising of three T20Is and three ODIs starting with the first T20I on September 28 in Thiruvananthapuram. The next two T20Is will be played on October 2 and October 4 in Guwahati and Indore. The series then moves onto the three ODIs on October 6, 9 and 11 in Lucknow, Ranchi and Delhi respectively.

Meanwhile, Cricket South Africa has already announced their squads which will be led by Temba Bavuma who has recovered from a left elbow injury, that he suffered during the five-match T20I series against Team India in June. He will be also leading the side in the T20 World Cup in Australia.

The T20I series will be important for India as they look to find their best combination for the T20 World Cup later the year. One expects the selection of the Indian squad to be based on the same lines. A few players are expected to make a comeback while eyes will be on a few other players as well.

Jasprit Bumrah who was ruled out of the Asia Cup with a back injury is in line to make a comeback. Harshal Patel, another Indian seamer who did not play in the Asia Cup is expected to make a comeback as well. There will be some serious thoughts given to Mohammed Shami who was snubbed from India’s Asia cup squad.

Pant did not have a good Asia Cup as was expected of him. In the opportunities that he got with the bat, he did not score a fifty or even a score of any substance. Barring the first game and the last game, he was chosen over Dinesh Karthik in the XI due to the team combination.

Given that he has not performed as expected, he might be dropped from the South Africa T20I series, which will allow the BCCI to have a look at Dinesh Karthik. Pant can make a comeback into the squad for the ODI series.
