IND vs SA: “We Nicknamed Him Justin Bieber Because....”– Dale Steyn Narrates A Story Of Ishan Kishan's Initial IPL Days

Legendary South Africa National Cricket Team pacer Dale Steyn narrated a story of the 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan’s initial Indian Premier League (IPL) days and revealed that the youngster was nicknamed ‘Justin Bieber’ because he was an “absolute rockstar”.

Ishan Kishan played all three games of the recently concluded home ODI series against South Africa National Cricket Team where the Shikhar Dhawan-led India National Cricket Team made a stellar comeback and registered a 2-1 series win.

The young wicketkeeper-batter finished as the third-highest run-getter in the series with 123 runs under his belt at an average of 41.00 with his best score being 93, which came in the second ODI at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9.

Speaking on Star Sports, the legendary Proteas pacer Steyn talked about Kishan and said that he should definitely be a regular member of India’s ODI squad. The pace bowling great also revealed that the youngster was nicknamed after famous Canadian singer Justin Bieber during his initial IPL days.

“A 100 percent. I actually played with him a bit way back in the IPL. He seemed like a baby. We nicknamed him Justin Bieber because he was like this absolute rockstar. I’ve watched him go and get better,” Steyn said on Star Sports.

Steyn further lavished praise on Ishan Kishan and said that he has got great timing in his shots. The pace bowling great also said that the star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant should be worried as Kishan is coming for his spot in the ODI team.

“For a short and small man, he packs an incredible punch. These sixes odd Nortje aren’t small. They’re pure timing and muscle. And just the ability to recognise when to take on the bowler… he is a great player and guys in that Indian team… Rishabh Pant should be worried that someone is coming for his spot,” Steyn said on Star Sports.
