South African Cricket Team would be overjoyed after winning the 1st ODI match. The visitors would be relieved as in the end Sanju Samson & Shardul Thakur were threatening to take the game away from South Africa. Proteas won the match by a mere 9 runs but that doesn’t look like the team had a grip on the match.
South Africa showed true character as the pitch was no less than a minefield. Smashing boundaries was tough and in that Klaasen displayed great mental application. The batter scored 74 runs in 65 balls and struck 6 fours and 2 sixes. The batter was looking to rotate the strike which frustrated the bowlers.
Klaasen got ample support from David Miller. The left-handed batter scored 75 runs in 63 balls in which he smashed 5 fours and 3 sixes. The duo made sure that India is chasing a formidable total of 250 runs. It won’t be wrong to say that South Africa has a gem of a player present in the form of Heinrich Klaasen.
India on the other side would be frustrated as their batters didn’t show application. The batters played too defensively and it won’t be wrong to say that they weren’t focused on rotating strikes which cost India. It would be interesting to see how the team makes a comeback as Proteas won’t give any freebies.
I do have a good Record Against India- Heinrich Klaasen
During Post Match Presentation Heinrich Klaasen was asked about whether the conditions were easy to bat. “Not at all, the ball was moving a lot and was spinning just before I walked out to the middle. But we have worked hard in the nets, I do have a good record against India and looking forward to the rest of the games.”
South Africa should not get complacent here as they have a long rally ahead to get direct qualification for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The team has shown a great attitude and it won’t be wrong to say that they are clicking at the right moment but for them, every game matters as India would be ready for a strong comeback in the 2nd ODI.
